At The Academy of Valvology, we’re absolutely delighted to share how much our training has resonated with the industry. Since we started, our aim has always been to raise the bar in dam and reservoir valve management, and the feedback we’ve had so far really shows how much value we’re providing.
Exceptional Feedback from the Environment Agency and Beyond
Back in November 2024, representatives from the Environment Agency joined us for two of our standout courses, VA003: Know the Limits and VA004: Mission Ready. These sessions tackled crucial topics like valve maintenance, inspection methods, and proactive management. Aadil Rafiq and John Lewthwaite delivered the training, and honestly, the reviews couldn’t have been better. Participants even gave us a five out of five rating.
The Environment Agency was particularly impressed, calling out the depth of knowledge and hands-on approach. One representative said, I wish I’d done these courses 40 years ago. They also loved seeing some of the innovative work happening on our factory floor, which gave the training an extra edge.
Off the back of this, we’ve started working closely with the team who are revising the current Reservoir Act. Together, we’re developing courses aimed at testing industry competency levels, making dam and reservoir operations across the UK safer and more efficient.
Expanding Partnerships and Opportunities
Our momentum didn’t stop there. Yorkshire Water also attended our VA003 course and is keen for their entire team to join future sessions. In February, Royal Haskins, who are key designers for Babcock (known for their critical engineering services), will take part in our advanced valve specification course. The training will happen online and focus on operational excellence and cutting-edge valve specs.
Towards Accreditation and Legislation
Our courses are in the final stages of alignment with Energy & Utility Skills (EUSR) accreditation, which we anticipate achieving by Spring 2026. This milestone will elevate our training to formally recognised industry standards. Looking ahead, we are confident that our Valvology® programme will become the benchmark for valve competency across the UK water sector.
